 Brivis
wins Year 2000 Energy Smart Awards
Brivis has won the two most prestigious awards in the Ergon
Energy Smart Awards in Australia. The awards were sponsored
and presented by the Sustainable Energy Authority, part of the
Government's Natural Resources and Environment Department. Brivis
was selected from over 1000 eligible members of the Government's
Energy Smart program to win the Gold Award as this year's most
Energy Smart organisation, and also won the category award for
Best Manufacturer.
Brivis was established in 1967 and today, in its state of
the art manufacturing plant, the company manufactures domestic
gas ducted furnaces, and ducted evaporative coolers, commercial
fan coil units and commercial and industrial air handling
units.
The Brivis product development philosophy is to manufacture
environmentally friendly and energy efficient products. The
company has won the Galaxy Energy Award for the most energy
efficient gas ducted furnace in Australia, the last four years
in a row. The most recent Energy Smart Awards recognise the
company's initial efforts to extend this strategy to its manufacturing
processes.
The company's commitment to environmental management has,
in recent years, reduced its electricity use by 400,000 kWh/year
and natural gas usage by 1100 GJ per year – a 30 percent
saving in gas consumption.
Savings in energy consumption have been achieved primarily
through the use of skylights, lighting controls and occupancy
sensors. Preventative maintenance programs, high efficiency
gas-fired radiant heaters for heating, high volume evaporative
coolers for cooling, computerised numerically controlled robots
for welding, folding and trimming, waste management procedures,
and AC servo motors to operate most machinery, have produced
additional savings.
These cost and energy savings can be attributed to a clear
energy management policy at Brivis. Energy conservation is
an integral part of the Brivis Environmental, Health and Safety
management system, which ensures continual monitoring and
reporting on program implementations.
